How We’re Working with Leaders around the World to Promote the Benefits of Mindfulness

Timothy Paul Loughton is a British Conservative Party politician, and a Member of Parliament (MP) for East Worthing and Shoreham. He serves as co-chair for the Mindfulness All Party Parliamentary Group (MAPPG), a cross party group dedicated to developing public policy on mindfulness in health, education, criminal justice and the workplace. He was the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families from 2010-2012, leading on several areas of successful reform in child protection. In 2016, he was confirmed as the Acting Chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee. Tim continues to work vigorously to improve support for vulnerable children and young people.

In this session, Tim will cover:

  • The importance of setting an example as a leader by openly practicing and discussing mindfulness
  • Constructive ways to engage people in discussions about the use of mindfulness
  • Advocating within government for a mindfulness approach and overcoming resistance to it
  • Helping communities and institutions better understand mindfulness and its applications

How to Build A Mindful Nation

Tim Ryan was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2002 and is currently serving in his eighth term representing Ohio’s 17th Congressional District. He maintains a strong commitment to the economic and social well-being of his constituents. Congressman Ryan has a daily mindfulness meditation practice and has been an outspoken advocate for promoting mindfulness as an aid to dealing with the variety of complex problems facing the nation. During his tenure in the House, he has helped to get mindfulness and social and emotional learning programs established in several schools in his district. Tim is author of A Mindful Nation, Healing America, and The Real Food Revolution.
