Tere Abdala-Romano
Caring About Your People: How to Introduce Mindfulness into Your Organization
Tere came to Los Angeles from Mexico City 14 years ago with her three young children and late husband. There she learned Tibetan Buddhism and practiced meditation. Inspired to help others, she left behind both her MBA and BS degrees to devote herself to her family, her personal growth and the study and practice of mindfulness. Tere became a dedicated practitioner at InsightLA before joining their Teacher Development Program. She is a graduate of Spirit Rock’s Community Dharma Leadership program, the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Practicum, and The Fearless Compassionate Care Training. She is also a Cultivating Emotional Balance certified teacher. Tere’s main interest is to bring mindfulness to Spanish-speaking communities throughout Los Angeles. She teaches Basics of Mindfulness in Spanish, one day workshops and daylong retreats. Tere Abdala-Romano is the president of a large company in Mexico City where she is bringing mindfulness and introducing conscious business practices. It is her firm belief that this will benefit many people’s lives and begin changing the way businesses are led in Mexico.

Kristin Neff
Why Having Self-compassion Makes Us Better Leaders
Kristin Neff is currently an Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. She is a pioneer in the field of self-compassion research, conducting the first empirical studies on self-compassion over a decade ago. In addition to writing numerous academic articles and book chapters on the topic, she is author of the book Self-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself, released by William Morrow. In conjunction with her colleague Dr. Chris Germer, she has developed an empirically supported eight-week training program called Mindful Self-Compassion, and offers workshops on self-compassion worldwide.
In this session, Kristin will cover:
- How self-compassion increases motivation and is a more effective motivator than self-criticism.
- How self-compassion improves coping with stress, and is a source of strength in challenging circumstances.
- The difference between self-compassion and self-esteem will be discussed, including how self-compassion avoids the pitfalls of self-esteem.
