Jamie Bristow

Building a Mindful Nation Through Inspired Collaboration Across Partisan Lines

Jamie Bristow is director of the world's first policy institute about mindfulness, which grew out of a program of mindfulness teaching in the British Parliament. The Mindfulness Initiative provides the secretariat to the UK Mindfulness All-Party Parliamentary Group and helped politicians to publish the seminal Mindful Nation UK policy report. Jamie now works with politicians around the world to help them make capacities of heart and mind serious considerations of public policy.

In this session, Jamie will cover:

  • The need to have leaders who will champion mindfulness initiatives, and how to approach them
  • Mindfulness as a “whole” approach to public policy making
  • The application of mindfulness in health care, education, workplace and the criminal justice system
  • Mindfulness as a way to exchange differing views in an effective way

Laura Herring

How Fear Holds Leaders Back - and What You Can Do About It in Your Own Life

Laura Herring is a psychologist and a pioneer in career/life transition support. Laura teaches people how to turn their purpose and passion for what they do into greater profits than they ever knew to be possible. She is Founder and Chairwoman of IMPACT Group, a global, WBE-certified career development firm that provides high touch solutions in talent development, global mobility and career transition that drive individual and organizational performance. Yi-Yuan Tang

The Neuroscience of Mindfulness Meditation: How the Body and Mind Work Together to Change Our Behavior

Dr. Yi-Yuan Tang is a Presidential Endowed Chair in Neuroscience and Professor of Psychological Sciences and Internal Medicine at Texas Tech University. He studies the neuroscience of attention, creativity, decision-making, learning, emotion, self-control and body-mind interaction using psychosocial, physiological, neuroimaging, mental training and genetic analysis. He has developed a novel mindfulness-based preventive intervention – Integrative Body-Mind Training (IBMT) and has studied its mechanisms and effects in large randomized clinical trials in healthy and patient populations since 1990s. He has published 8 books, including Brain-Based Learning and Education: Principles and Practice and The Neuroscience of Mindfulness Meditation: How the Body and Mind Work Together to Change Our Behaviour, and more than 290 peer-reviewed articles including Nature Reviews Neuroscience, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Trends in Cognitive Sciences, Psychiatry Research, and Stress and Health, which have been reported in scientific journals and popular media such as TIME, New York Times, BBC, and NPR.

In this session, Yi-Yuan will cover:

  • How mindfulness training enhances self-control and attention
  • How the brain responds to Integrated Body Mind Training
  • The use of mindfulness in resolving anxiety and depression
  • How mindful meditation can help reduce addictions

Caroline Welch

How Leaders Can Move from Chaos to Calm in Work and Life

Caroline is CEO of Mind Your Brain, Inc. and co-founder with Dr. Daniel Siegel of the Mindsight Institute, whose mission is to make the latest neuroscience accessible for professional and personal development through online and in-person programs. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School and holds a Master’s degree in Communications from the University of Southern California. Caroline lectures worldwide on how the latest science, including the science behind mindfulness, can optimize our personal and professional well-being. Caroline is currently writing her first book, The Mindful Woman: From Chaos to Calm, to be published by Penguin Random House. Caroline interviewed over 100 women worldwide from all walks of life to explore the many roles women play and the unique challenges women face in the workplace.
